Orbost is the hub for exploring Snowy River Country and is blessed with a mild climate. One of the richest river flats in the country sustains agriculture, dairying and beef farming. The timber industry remains an important but diminishing economic activity. Orbost population is around 200O while up to a futher 2000 people live in the surrounding district.Orbost Chamber of Commerce represents over 70 businesses. The town supplies all the basic needs: hospital, library, police, supermarkets, banks ( CBA, Westpac, NAB ), Post Office as well as varied food outlets including two hotels and the Orbost Club.There is ample accommodation available.
